Vgo Telepresence Robot

The advances in robotic technology have given home-bound students a chance to attend classes. Take, for instance, the Vgo Telepresence Robot, which has enabled Paris Luckowski, a brain tumor student, to be present at school virtually. Previously, due to treatments of his tumor, the fourth grader Luckowski couldn’t physically go to school. The Vgo Robot enables him to take part in classroom activities and receive instruction without leaving home. He can also move around in the classroom and socialize with his friend in the hallway. At home, Luckowski with Vgo applications installed on his computer, just clicks on the location, he is instantly there on the robot screen. To move the Vgo robot, he just needs to drag the mouse pointer, and Vgo goes into that direction. In short, this technological marvel will certainly bring a smile on the faces of disabled students, as well as their parents and teachers.

How Chocolate Chip Cookies Were Inveted

If Ruth Wakefield had not tried to improve on a traditional cookie recipe, we wouldn’t have chocolate chip cookies today. Chocolate chip cookies were accidentally invented at the Toll House Inn in the 1930s. The owners, Kenneth and Ruth Wakefield, provided meals to their guest. One day as Ruth prepared a batch of cookies, she cut a chocolate bar into tiny pieces to add to the dough. She had expected the chocolate pieces to melt into the dough, but instead they simply softened. Her cookies became popular at the inn and eventually her recipe was published in several newspaper.

Keep Trying !

Two years ago, I started writing anovel. I thought I was good at writing stories. But when the third publisher turned into down, I stopped finding more publishers. Last year, I began with an easier writing task – writing short stories. A local magazine printed my first short story. I was so happy that I continued producing more short stories for the magazine. Then, the magazine owner asked me if he could put all my short stories into an anthology. To me, to see my book being published was a dream come true. I couldn’t be happier when it turned out that the anthology became a best seller. Since then, I have my written a lot of short stories. Next year, my second anthology will come out. Being a writer of short stories is not bad at all. After so much experience in writing, I plan to write another novel. Who knows ? I’ll never stop trying. Life is so unpredictable.

Avoid fad diets !

A diet that focuses on only a few foods to lose weight is not very effective. First, limiting food types could lead you back to your former eating behavior. Karina, who commited herself to a low carb diet, is an example. She ate cabbage soup, raw vegetables, and fruits. Before long, she grew weary eating the same foods and craved for her favorite foods. Frusteted, she went back to her former unhealthy eating style. Second, a fad diet is not healthy although it promises a quick weight loss. According to Andrea Giancoli, MPH. from the American Dietetic Association, fad diets do not meet the nutritional needs of most people. They may lead to deprivation of nutrients, returning weight gain, frustration, and health problem. Therefore, unless you stick to a healthy, balanced diet continuously, your efforts to lose weight will not work in the long run.

Extra Money, anyone ?

Students waiting a part time job to earn extra money need to consider several factors. The first is location. Student prefer their part time job to be close to their house so that they need not worry about transportation expenses. Baby sitting for their neighbors or delivering newspapers in their neighborhood are two examples. Another consideration is interest. Students may enjoy browsing the internet, or are tottaly into items like gadgets, clothes, or other product. For instance, Nunu, a gadget freak and internet junkie, combines his interests by setting up an online gadget store. The third factor is the students school major. Student may go for a job that is in line with their field of study by becoming a tutor to their juniors or a teachers assistant. In short, students must consider several aspects before accepting a pat time job.

Medical Aid Beyond Expectation

The latest development of brain computer interface technology offers new hope for improving  the lives of quadriplegics. To illustrate, Jan Scheuerman, 52, has been paralyzed from the neck down, and had needed a wheelchair and an attendant all the time for more than 13 years. After watching a video about BCI research by professors and neuroscientist at the University of Pittsburgh, Jan signed up for the research. She was required to undergo a brain surgery to implant electronic chips in her brain. The hips were then connected to a mind controlled robotic arm through a computer that ran a complez algorithm. The algorithm interpreted the brain signals, directing the arm to move. In short, this biomedical achievement is truly a blessing for quadriplegics.

Earthquake

An earthquake happens when two tectonic plates are crashing into or sliding past each other. The outer layer of earth is made up of many floating plates that are like jigsaw puzzle pieces with edges made up of many faults. The plates keep moving, when the jagged edges of faults are stuck together. While the rest of the plates are moving, the energy that would normally cause the plates to move is being stored up. As the jagged edges finally free themselves, all the stored up energy is released. The energy goes outward in all directions in the form of seismic waves like ripples on a pond. It is these seismic waves that shake earth when they move trough it, and while the waves reach the surface of earth, they shake the ground and anything on it.
